چکیده

In this paper, a Bayesian approach is proposed to estimate ood quan-tiles while taking the statistical uncertainties into account. Predictive excee-dence probabilities of annual maximum discharges are obtained using the three-parameter generalised gamma distribution. The parameters of this distribution are assumed to be random quantities rather than deterministic quantities and to have a prior joint probability distribution. On the basis of observations, this prior joint distribution can be updated to the posterior joint distribution by using Bayes' theorem. An advantage is that the generalised gamma distribution ts in well with the stage-discharge rating equation being an approximate power law between water level and discharge. Furthermore, since the generalised gamma distribution has three parameters, it is exible in tting data. Many well-known probability distributions, which are commonly used to estimate quantiles of hydrological random quantities, are special cases of the generalised gamma distribution. As an axample, a Bayesian analysis of annual maximum discharges of the Rhine at Lobith is performed to determine ood quantiles including their uncertainty intervals.

Bayes Estimates of Flood Quantiles using the Generalised Gamma Distribution∗

In this paper, a Bayesian approach is proposed to estimate flood quantiles while taking statistical uncertainties into account. Predictive exceedance probabilities of annual maximum discharges are obtained using the threeand fourparameter generalised gamma distribution (without and with location parameter respectively). The parameters of this distribution are assumed to be random quantities rat...

Bayesian Estimation of Shift Point in Shape Parameter of Inverse Gaussian Distribution Under Different Loss Functions

In this paper, a Bayesian approach is proposed for shift point detection in an inverse Gaussian distribution. In this study, the mean parameter of inverse Gaussian distribution is assumed to be constant and shift points in shape parameter is considered. First the posterior distribution of shape parameter is obtained. Then the Bayes estimators are derived under a class of priors and using variou...

Bayesian estimation of design loads

Probabilistic design of structures is usually based on estimates of design loads with a large average return period. Design loads are often estimated using classical statistical methods. A shortcoming of this approach is that statistical uncertainties are not taken into account. In this paper, a method based on Bayesian statistics is presented. Using Bayes’ theorem, the prior distribution repre...

Bayesian Quantile Regression with Adaptive Elastic Net Penalty for Longitudinal Data

Longitudinal studies include the important parts of epidemiological surveys, clinical trials and social studies. In longitudinal studies, measurement of the responses is conducted repeatedly through time. Often, the main goal is to characterize the change in responses over time and the factors that influence the change. Recently, to analyze this kind of data, quantile regression has been taken ...

Bayesian Estimation of the Multiple Change Points in Gamma Process Using X-bar chart

The process personnel always seek the opportunity to improve the processes. One of the essential steps for process improvement is to quickly recognize the starting time or the change point of a process disturbance. Different from the traditional normally distributed assumption for a process, this study considers a process which follows a gamma process. In addition, we consider the possibility o...
